you’re welcome once again, princess

super mario galaxy

Bringing the total to an unprecedented two finished games in one week, I just completed Super Mario Galaxy. Like Assassin’s Creed, the player does not need to do every single thing in the game in order to complete it. You need to obtain a certain number of stars in order to access the last level, and with enough skill (which I have), you can beat the last boss. Overall, it was a lot of fun. The gameplay stayed very consistent throughout, but never got old due to the very creative level design. Unlike some other first party Nintendo games, this one doesn’t just rehash the same old stuff from the prior versions. Of course, every new Mario game has throwbacks to the series’ past, but it’s always tweaked enough to keep it new. This was a great game and is so far the only Wii game that truly shows the capabilities and, more importantly, the potential, of the system.

the princess die-aries

Princess Peach

I have a question about Super Mario Galaxy. If Princess Peach can send Mario a letter across the galaxy that contains extra lives, why does she only send five? If she really wanted Mario to find her, why wouldn’t she send him like a hundred, or a thousand? When I’m controlling Mario, especially in some of these crazy space levels, I can burn through five lives in two minutes. Come on Princess, help me help you.

the best X-mas break evar!

video game schedule
Now that pretty much every game worth playing has been released for the holidays, I am left with a lack of money. Luckily though, after a few finals, I will have a surplus of time. Therefore, I’ve put together a tentative gaming schedule for the holidays up until school starts again.

For the moment, I’m going to continue playing Assassin’s Creed until I finish it or it gets boring, whichever comes first, with evening sessions of COD4 multiplayer whenever us threevuers can all get together on the same virtual battlefield. After that, I’m going to finish Super Mario Galaxy (I’m about halfway through). I plan on turning that into Gamestop, and picking up Mass Effect. I don’t want to start ME until the post X-mas game drought, when I can spend a lot of time on it.

I’m sure, like the best laid schemes o’ mice and men, this plan will fall apart as soon as some unforeseen awesomeness comes out.  As a matter of fact, Samus and Leo are both looking at me right now, asking me how I could neglect them after we’ve spent so much time together already. Don’t worry guys, I’ll be back.

Super Mario Galaxy: So far so awesome

smg2

I am at what I believe to be a little under half way through Super Mario Galaxy. I talked about the game earlier, right as I began to play it and was very impressed by it. Now, after about 10 hours into it, I can only say that it’s that much better. It’s still fun, but challenging at the same time, and every new set of levels (galaxies) bring with them a whole new experience. I’ve only had to rely on the internets once so far to find an elusive gold shell. It just turned out that I was an idiot. The only remotely negative thing I have to say so far is that I have felt a few tiny tinges of monotony, but those are completely washed away with the freshness of each new world. I realize that this will be a game that I am going to miss when it’s all over.
