Revisiting Rapture

Recently I decided to keep/forgot to cancel my Gamefly membership for another month, so I was just looking at my queueeueeu to see what was on deck after finishing the innuendo-laden Rainbow Six Vegas 2. There aren’t a ton of games out right now that I’m dying to play, and the only soon-to-be released one I’m really looking forward to is Battlefield: Bad Company, which launches in a few weeks.

What I decided to do is go back and finish Bioshock, which I never did, but know I should. The only thing though is that I forgot most of the events leading up to where I am in the game, but I can just glance over a walkthrough to jog ol’ memory. Besides, there’s not much to it: underwater city, Big Daddies, Little Sisters, murderous masked meth-heads. Kind of reminds me of my childhood.

Cheapskate: That’s Barely a Dollar Per Kill!

I got a great game at an even better price today via Gamefly’s May used game sale. There are some pretty good deals on their site, but the best one, I thought, was Assassin’s Creed for $18.99. I also used my five Gamefly bucks that I got for my first three months of membership, bringing the total to the bargain basement price of $14.62!

It’s true, I already played through the game, but I’ve been craving some Templar-killing action lately, and maybe someday I’ll get all those damned flags. Plus, 14 bucks is small price to pay for such a great game, especially when compared to the $15 dollar price tag of the crap-fest Reservoir Dogs on the OGXbox.

to keep or not to keep

Mass Effect

To my ever growing disappointment, I still haven’t received my copy of Mass Effect from Gamefly after a whole week now (I have my fingers crossed for it being in my mailbox today). I have a question for all our faithful readers though (Russ and Tyler), should I just keep it? I’m torn because I can take all the time in the world with it without having to buy it, but if I do take a really long time, I’ll be wasting rental time with Gamefly. The “buy it now” price on Gamefly (from here on out referred to as GF) is about 44 bucks, which isn’t a bad price, so I’m not sure if I should just buy and have my next game sent out already (Blitz: The League. Blech), or play it for awhile and decide later. Are you glad that you bought it? I’m hearing extremely mixed reviews on it, actually as I type this I’m listening to the Joystiq podcast where one guy loves it and another guy…not so much.

So, let me know what you think, and then send me 44 dollars.

now I’m gameflying

gamefly
Finally I decided to take the plunge and sign up for Gamefly. The first month is $8.95, and it’s $15.95 a month from then on. I figure that with the insane prices of video games nowadays, if I can get through two games a month it will be totally worth it. Plus, there are a lot of games out there that I want to try, but definitely don’t want to own (The Simpson’s Game). After browsing the games for about five minutes, I have 15 games in my queue, the first one being Mass Effect. There are some that I’ve already played and never finished (Hitman: Blood Money), and some I’ve always been curious about (Beautiful Katamari). I’m pretty excited after hearing what Russ has to say about it.

Also, after looking around the site, I saw that member are given five free downloads per month from it’s digital music service. There are a few other perks that come with a membership as well, and it’s nice to see a company give back to the customer, instead of just taking away. (I’m looking at you, Blockbuster Online).

Massively Affected (Update Two)

I just got Mass Effect in the mail from Gamefly. The first thing I did was to go online and use my “Keep It” option (it was only $45). I’m more excited about starting this game on than any other game in recent memory. I was so proud of not turning on my Xbox 360 all day yesterday. I fear I may not turn it off now.

Update: I just played the first 80 minutes of the game. It has one big thing going for it - as opposed to leaning more towards being what I expected it to be, it’s more like the game is how I hoped it would be.

Cheapskate: Gamefly Gets Awesomer

I don’t think the world is realizing how great Gamefly has become. If you haven’t heard of them, they are like Netflix but for games. They have three major factors that keep me happy:
