Monday, May 12th = Christmas!!

So, tomorrow marks the day that I will be getting my Xbox 360 back from the grave/Microsoft, only 40 days after it started wigging out on me. I could make some sort of Jesus and his 40 days in the desert reference here, but I get enough comparisons already.

Now what am I going to do first? Probably play a bit of GTA4, since I haven’t even seen it in action yet. Maybe some COD4. I’ve also had a hankering for The Orange Box, too. Man, so much to choose from!

Why hellllooo there, lovely and trashy lady, I’ll be seeing you tomorrow…

Cheapskate: Xbox 360 Pro Trade-In

Sorry to hijack your category Russ. I just had to post this tale of a personal victory.

So, I had a launch 360, and it red ringed about a year and a half ago. Thankfully, Microsoft sent me out a refurbished 360 after only a month and seven days and now that one is nearing the end of its life cycle. Damn Microsoft for making such a flimsy, yet fun-packed system. Anyhoo, I was grinding away on Lost Odyssey (review on temporary hiatus due to OTHER games coming out) for about an hour and a half, preparing for the first major boss fight against this griffin-thing when BAM!, out like a light. “Unable to read disk” Well, that was it.

Long story short, I took the console, two wireless controllers and GH3 in to Gamestop and asked for trade in value to put towards an elite. I figured it to be about $150. What I was told was that I could get $60 because of the non-responsive disk tray (a known problem) and a frayed power cord. So I refused the trade in and did what anyone in my position with half a brain would do. I went down the road to the other Gamestop where they gave me $170 for it. Fools. Now I have an Elite ready to go with $30 already down toward GTA4. Week=set.

Broke-Ass Box: Boxing Edition

Today, UPS sent me a big white empty box to ship my broken, RROD’d Xbox 360 Elite to Mesquite, TX for repair. Engadget likes to put up sexy unboxing pics any time they get something cool. I thought I would do the opposite. Behold, the lame re-boxing of my broken console:

Broke-Ass Box - RROD Edition

So, everyone and their mother knows that my Xbox 360 Elite’s screen has been freezing randomly for the past few weeks, and that it’s soon going in for repair. I can usually play for a few minutes before the screen freezes, and every once in a while I get a few solid gaming moments out of the sucker before it craps out. I haven’t tried in about a week, but today I really wanted to play a minute or two of Call of Duty 4 before I ship my big/black/loud/hot machine to Microsoft this week.

What do I find staring at me when I power up the ‘box?

The infamous RED RING OF DEATH.

I don’t know how I feel about this. I guess it validates all the complaining I’ve made to Microsoft.

Broke-Ass Box, The Continuing Saga

So here we are, sixteen days after my Xbox 360 Elite started crapping all over itself. After two requests for repair, I have now found out that the box to ship my 360 to Microsoft is currently in California, and will get to me on the 23rd. Not sure why it’s going to take four days to get to me from Cali, but whatevs, at least it’s coming.

So, what am I going to do whilst I wait? For starters, I have class in about an hour (THE best way to spend a Saturday avo, btw). I also have Super Paper Mario, Super Mario Galaxy, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and a slew of DS games staring me in the face.

Unfortunately for those games, I really just want to play some COD4.

Xbox Repair Status

Gosh, I’ve been writing about my broken Xbox 360 so much lately that you guys probably think I’m getting to the point where I’m beating one of these…

(JUST KIDDING! IT’S JUST SLEEPING!!)

Seriously, this morning I went online to check the status of my Xbox repair, which I put in about a week ago. I figured I would have the complimentary box they send to me so I can ship my broke-ass Xbizox to them at no charge by now. Yeah, turns out that they have no record of my request. I’m pretty good at filling out online forms, and I have a pretty good memory, and I clearly remember filling one of those forms out to the best of my ability.

So, I filled out another request, which I just checked and it did go through, but they haven’t shipped me my box yet. I guess I can go play some Wii. There’s no way I’m getting this thing by GTA4 day.
