So this was the mid-season finale, and we have to wait seven months until the next 10 episodes, at which point the series will end. So, how are they doing at the midpoint?

Last week I was treated to an early release of episode 408, but I had to wait all week for this one. That made my wait seem much longer than it probably was.

For the next few weeks I’m treated with the fact that the new BSG episodes are airing in the UK on Tuesdays (as opposed to the regular Fridays here in the US), which means that us internet-TV-downloading-savvy types get to watch episodes 8-10 a few days early.

This week’s episode focused on what I like most about the series: its lore. I could care less about who lives or dies, I just want to see what new and interesting legends the writers come up with.

I’m finally catching up on some of my favorite shows that I’ve been missing for the last few years, starting with Battlestar Galactica season 3, which I’m watching right now. It’s been so long since I’ve seen the show, I wasn’t sure if I would still like it as much as I used to, but after watching a quick recap of the prior events, I’m definitely back on board.
I don’t remember the show being this, what word am I looking for…edgy, before. Already in the first five minutes, I’ve seen a terrorist-style insurgent attack, a scene of fairly rough sex, and a murder-by-fork. I love seeing all the old characters again, even Starbuck. I don’t care what you guys say, she is rad.

After three awesome episodes to start out the season, last night’s journey into all things BSG seemed like it was in cruise control.

I’m tired of waiting for Mark and Tyler to catch up on BSG so we can talk about it, and this is the final season of the show, so I want to start a weekly post after every episode with my thoughts and predictions. Granted, this is all just stuff that comes to my mind while watching.

I just finished watching the season 4 premiere of Battlestar Galactica, and though it was pretty awesome, I was reminded of some of the “my gripes-able” characteristics of the show:
1. That damn intro. Actually, there are two. There’s always a real quick one in the beginning, then about five minutes of show, and then another intro. It’s that second intro I hate, because it does a real quick recap of the episode you’re about to watch! Thanks but no thanks, I don’t want to see spoilers as I’m watching the damn show. I turn my head away every time.
2. Katie Sackhoff (she plays Kara “Starbuck” Thrace). What a horrible actress. She’s gotten better, but she still makes my skin crawl sometimes; and for me, she brings the every scene down a notch.
3. Dr. Gaius Baltar. Can’t this guy die already? He’s such a scuzz-bucket, I’ve never empathized with him. I think it’s the pure selfishness of his character that really bothers me.
Most Americans have already probably watched the episode, but here in Hawaii we’re the last to see anything. Make sure you watch the season 4 premiere of Battlestar Galactica tonight!
Speaking of BSG, someone needs to come out with a good Battlestar Galactica game. There have been a few games so far based on the series, one for PS2 and OGXbox that was based off the original series from the ’70s, and more recently there was one released on XBLA last year. Both are space flight shooters, and neither of them were/are that successful.
My vision is that of a game that is basically a complete ripoff of Mass Effect, but with BSG characters and storylines. Also, instead of the Mako, put in a Raptor, or even a Viper, or better yet, a Viper Mark VII. NERD STATUS CONFIRMED.
With the fourth and final season premiering next month, the SciFi channel has realeased this video, which sums up the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica in eight minutes.
Warning, super spoilery if you haven’t watched the show. And I don’t think that anyone who hasn’t watched the show yet would get anything out of this video. I was having a hard time following some of it, and I’ve seen every episode.
I’m looking forward to this next season, because I like shows that have a finite run. I think it gives the writers more room to focus on what’s important.
