Just In Case You Forgot

To Two Too Human is coming out this week. Anyone plan on playing it? I totally would, eX-box came down with a severe case of the RROD.

May The Schwartz Be With You

Umm, so, did any of you guys know that there is a Spaceballs animated series airing right now? Neither did I. That’s because, as of press time, it only airs on a Canadian pay-TV channel, and has not yet been shown in the states. According to an IMDb commenter, though, G4tv currently holds the rights to it, and if the above picture is to be believed, will be here this fall.

But do we really want it to be? I mean, the movie was hilarious when it first came out, 21 years ago, but how well would it relate to our modern, highly evolved, advanced sense of comedy? I just don’t know.

I stumbled upon this nugget when I was checking out RE4’s voice actors on IMDb. It turns out that the same actor that played everyone’s favorite Spanish, homosexual ex-cop/Las Plagas scientist, Luis Sera, named Rino Romano, also voices Spaceball’s Lonestar. I wish I was watching it right now.

Colt-45. That’s why I’m going to i am 8-bit

I had no idea that the finest malt liquor on earth was a sponsor for iam8bit. Knowing this, my plans of running in to Lando have significantly increased.

Funsies aside, if you are in the LA area and want to attend the gala event of the millennium, then make your way down to Hollywood Thursday night, around 8ish. I’ll be there with my zipper coquettishly undone and plenty of film in the camera.

See you there!

Well Played Sony, Well Played.

Now that is the cutest soul patch in the world. Yes, readers, this little Little Big Planet Sackboy adorned in God Of War attire could be yours if you pre-order the game in North America.

Now I really don’t see LBP being more than a stop-gap win for the PS3, like a half way Wii Sports without the Grandma appeal. I’m sure it will be fun and popular in the bloging community for the month it arrives, but then it will slip in to the ether of memory much like “Huge” games like GTA4 and Halo3. This image does one thing right though. It makes me feel a certain, aw what is the word? Love? No, too strong. Nostalgia? Mmm, too formal. Ah, Sentimentality! Yeah, a sentimentality for the Playstation brand! That’s it… Wow, haven’t felt that for a long time.

Gots To Be Somebody Need Some Killin’

Last night after work drinking Red Stripes and eating delicious steaks at a friend’s house, all I wanted to do was come home and do some BF:BC killin’. Much to my chagrin, the game refused to connect to EA’s online servers, and couldn’t give me what I wanted needed.

Maybe this has something to do with the fact that the conquest mode is going to be available soon (thanks for the tip, blacktail), or maybe also has something to do with the fact that EA said they are going to be shutting down the majority of the demo servers soon. Whatever it is, it better be fixed soon…DAMN SOON!

Slurpee Bowl 2009

I threw a hail-mary today and went to the 7-11 near my school to see what was happening in the wide world of Slurpee cups. I walked in and BOOM!, there was a whole new stack of cups commemorating the release of Madden 2009.

I tried to call my usual play of Coke, cherry, and pina colada, but cherry wasn’t on the roster, and coke was suffering from extreme meltage, so I had to call an audible and go with strawberry and pina colada. It’s pretty good, like a Slurpish lava flow.

My new cup prominently features current Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning, and has some players in the background like Marvin Harrison, Ben Rothlesomething, and Steve Smith. Rush on over to your local 7-11 and recieve one for yourself!

Rest in Peace, Friend.

As you may have read from Mark’s post below, I’m going to be one busy fellow up until the day before my wife and I move to DC in September. In fact, I know it’s going to be so busy that we started boxing up stuff that we won’t need until after the move. I’m sad to say that my Xbox 360 was one of today’s casualties.

Never fear, my good friend and self-professing gamerscore whore Nate will be assuming my gamertag and knocking out easy cheevers for me when he gets bored. So if you see my profile playing Open Season or some Cabella’s game, it’s not me!

And lucky for you, a few weeks ago I wrote enough LARP posts to carry me through to October.

Anchors Aweigh!

As some of you may have noticed from his Twitter update, Russ is going to be pretty much MIA from now until mid-September. The reason for this is that he was just selected to be promoted to the rank of Chief (E-7) in the Navy. You non-military types may not realize what an achievement this is. For a guy that young (and stupid) to reach such a high rank in such a short amount of time, and still have time to be the third best writer on Threevue is very impressive.

Unfortunately, there is a long indoctrination process he has to go through, where all the current Chiefs make the n00bs run around, do some pro-Navy chants, and a bunch of other homo-erotic activities so they can justify their own superiority. This means that we may not get much more out of him than out beloved Monday LAFL’s.

So let’s all congratulate Russ. He still has two more ranks to achieve before he becomes Master Chief, but give him a couple years, he’ll get there.

Whew, That Was A Close One.

Did you know that Vin Diesel was originally supposed to play Agent 47 in the Hitman movie? I just stumbled upon a Gamespot article from way back in 2005 saying that he had not only locked down the principle role, but that he was also trying to acquire the game license.

I still haven’t seen Hitman (wait…30 seconds elapse…now it’s in my Netflix queue), but I guarantee Timpthy Olyphant did a better job than VD would have. As one commenter so eloquently stated, “Vin Diesel- the Pauly Shore of action movies.” Well said.

Threevue.com Writer Meet-Up Tonight

Hay fanz, just wanted to let you know that there will be a threevue.com writer meet-up tonight. Invitees include myself and Mark Hill. We’ll be watching the increasingly-popular Vampire Weekend and local friends and DDRU2-featured Linus (whose frontman frequents this site, btw/ftw) live tonight at the Pipeline Cafe in Honolulu.

You are definitely not invited. See you there!

Fishing Tomorrow, No Posts From This Guy

Although I had a terrible time with it last year, I’ve been suckered into doing to deep-sea fishing tomorrow morning. I hope to be knee-deep in some ahi (yellowfin tuna) by the end of the day tomorrow. I’ll let you know how I make out, but all I’m hoping for is to not get ridiculously seasick the entire time (again).

Cheapskate: When Two Become One

There was a little piece of E3 news that was pretty much breezed over, but I think it deserves a little more attention: the fact that Netflix On Demand will soon be available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

The thing I like most is that those totally smart and efficient people that have both Netflix and Xbox Live, like Russ and me (but not Tyler), will be able watch Netflix movies on demand over Xbox live at no additional cost! Netflix has a large list of movies that subscribers can watch instantly online, and to have this library available at any moment over Xbox Live is really cool.

Another kick in the nuts to Blockbuster Online.

Knights of the New Republic

Uh oh. Did somebody just say something about a KOTOR MMO?

This just may be the catalyst that will suck me into the MMO world. I resisted the sheer force of WoW, and there has never been any other MMO that I’ve even remotely wanted to play, but all signs point to awesome here. Since Mass Effect, I’ve become a huge fan of BioWare, and the last-gen Knights of the Old Republic was a great game.

Put those facts is a bottle, shake ‘em up, and I think you’ve got a WoW killer/MMO that Mark will actually play.

Joystiq Reader Meet-Up: Tyler’s Night Out

Just getting back from the Joystiq reader meet-up in Santa Monica tonight, a place where a good time (and free swag) was had by all. The event was hosted by Mahalo.com and held in their spacious offices, achingly close to the beach (how does any work get done?). All of the guys from the ‘Stiq were there along with the likes of Cheapy D from Cheap Ass Gamer and my new Rock Band-mate, Lawrence Young from All Games Interactive.

As you can see from the pics, this gathering was a bit bigger than the Kotaku roundup from last Thursday. The Threevue Street Team and I arrived late (as usual) to the event by about an hour: I was the 151st person to show up. There were at least 250 fans in the place by the time we left at half past 9. So yeah, bunches of folks made the trip out.

E3vue: Wednesday, 7/16/2008

As you may already know, the E3 trade show is set to kick off this week, with tons of announcements and news to coincide with the event. Since it’s invitation-only nowadays (and we definitely didn’t get an invite) it will be our duty to scour the internets for valuable info and pass it along, with an accompaniment of unfounded and biased opinion to boot.

Big news items of the day:
Rock Band 2 to feature “no-fail mode”
The Who playing at Rock Band 2 party @ E3
Covenant playable in Halo Wars
Fable 2 will be about 12 hours long, Dead Space about 15-20
Left 4 Dead is a “fun party game” according to Joystiq

Mark:
Sorry I’m late, guys. I was up and inside of the internet all night looking for something moist and juicy to write about. There was a fair amount of news, but with the Big Three pressies already in the books, much of the news coming from the smaller devs are either something we knew already, or wholly “meh” worthy.

There were some interesting tidbits, though, like the Rock Band 2 “no fail” mode.” That will bridge the gap between the noobs and the pros. Also, the more I hear about games like Fable 2 and Left for Dead, the more I’m looking forward to playing them.

Russ:
Pretty slow news day, considering all the cool stuff that they have announced the past two days. I like the idea of a “no-fail” mode in Rock Band 2 - this coupled with the drum trainer mode already mentioned, I’ll be busy making a ridiculous racket soon. The glowing reviews of Left 4 Dead leave me quite excited.

I’m also relieved that Fable 2 is only 12 hours - that will give me more time to mess around with the sidequests. I just hope the sidequests are fun, and not repetitive and boring like in Mass Effect. I am also happy to hear that Dead Space will be at least 15 hours long - it took me 20+ hours to finish Resident Evil 4, and I really enjoyed how long it was, inching my way through that terrible mess.

Tyler:
Tyler was a little busy yesterday preparing for his trip to Santa Monica for the Joystiq meetup, and making these rad shirts. He’ll be back soon, though. He promises.
