Iron Man: Surprisingly Impressive

I know what you’re thinking. “Hey, Mark, you like nerdy crap like video games and comics and superheroes and things of that nature. Therefore, you must have seen the new Iron Man movie a long time ago, especially since everyone you know that’s seen it has said it’s rad. Right?”

Well, dick, no. I hadn’t seen it until the night before last. I was just waiting for the right moment (at home with pizza and some Negro Modelo). I pretty much refuse to see movies in theaters anymore (the public just weirds me out), and I had two season on Entourage to get through before I could Netflix it. But I did see it, and all those people are right, it is rad.

I didn’t expect a comic book-based movie, especially one with, let’s face it, a B-lister superhero, to be of such high quality. I think it has to do with director/Swinger Jon Favreau’s vision of keeping it based in reality, which he did a very good job of.

Robert Downey Jr. was amazing as Tony Stark, and I hated Gwyneth Paltrow a little less than usual, which is saying a lot. If you watched the little scene at the very end after the credits, then you know that there will definitely be some more Iron Man, or even Iron Men, in the future. I’m looking forward to that.
