I sat down and watched The Ultimate Avengers, a 2006 animated movie based on the 12-issue comic book series The Ultimates. It’s considered one of the better storylines in recent comic book history, and I think it’s the basis of the upcoming Avengers movie that was hinted about in both the recent Iron Man and Hulk movies. I’ve only read a few comic books but this is one of them, so I thought I would give this film a shot.
This movie is a straight-to-DVD affair, and it shows. There isn’t a whole lot of artistic flair throughout the film, and you can tell that the artists were more concerned about keeping to conventional design than creating “art”. That being said, the writing was castrated compared to the source material; I remember some really unconventional topics in the comic book (spousal abuse comes to mind) that weren’t addressed in the film, making it seem very PG.
I must also admit that I fell asleep for about 10 minutes in the middle of it. The fact that I don’t plan on going back and watching those 10 minutes speaks worlds about the film itself. I can’t recommend this one, sorry.

I’m not sure if I would be able to sit through an entire animated superhero adventure in my life anymore.
