Agreed, I hadn't considered the community aspect in WoW. What personally keeps me from playing is the fact that there is no real end to the game (I like my stories) and I don't like to play games on a computer. When there is a lauded MMO on the console, I may give it a whirl.

Hey, Dan here from the podcast in question! I'm sure I could go on some lengthy explanation about why I personally enjoy WoW but I think in my case it comes down to 2 things

1. It reminds me a lot of when I used to play Dungeons and Dragons as a kid, which I've always missed and really enjoyed. Not to mention that the game is so huge (and getting bigger as they patch it) that you can always find something new to do.

2. The community aspect of playing with friends. It's similar to XBL.

But that's just me. It's definitely a game you could go overboard with (with all the collecting and trying to be "the best" but for me it's just another game that I enjoy playing.

Yeah, and think of all the Chinese gold farmers that would be put out of work if the world stopped playing. We don't want that.

Don't the new updates also update the graphics? I have no idea, that's just what I thought. People are still into it because it's fundamentally a medium to collect things, and if they stop playing, they'll lose all the stuff they collected. Or even worse, some other dude will collect cool new stuff instead.
