Cheevers: My Faves

Yeah, I combined two categories from the site… SO WHAT? Seriously though, this idea has been beat to death but I’m going to give a boot to the chops for good measure. Mainly, I’m curious to find out A) how important Achievements are and B) what are some of your most hard-fought, glorious, fist-pump inducing moments were. To kick things off, here’s my list: Minor spoilers, even though some of these games have been out for so long now if you haven’t beaten them… sorry.

#1 Zombie Genocider / Dead Rising : Defeat at least 53,594 zombies. 20 Points

I pulled this one while I was in the depths of my Achievement addiction, a place I don’t want to go again. 53,594 is supposedly the population of Willamette, CO. (where the game takes place). I remember this one a little bothered by the fact that it was only worth 20 Points. It took hours of work just to crush all of those Zombies under my tires in the Mall tunnels. Oh, well.

#2 Press Start to Play / The Simpsons Game : Press any button to begin the game. 5 Points

This is the funniest Achievement out there. Leave it to the Simpsons to come up with a self-derisive reward for the most necessary and commonplace action. When this popped up on my screen I knew this game was going to make me laugh.

#3 War Hardened / Call of Duty 2 : Finished the Single Player Campaign on Hardened or Veteran difficulty setting. 200 Points

Not only is this one worth a whopping 2-hundy, but it’s also the last one I got after beating the game on the hardest setting. Soaking up all of those bullets at Pointe du Hoc in order to hear that “buh-gloomp” and see that bubble was well worth it. A perfect finish to one of the best FPS games on the 360.

#4 Defiant / Half Life 2 : Hit the trashcan cop with the can. 5 Points

I’m a big fan of the Achievements obtained for taking the road less traveled. It shows that the designers thought know what you want to do in your heart, they acknowledge and occasionally reward you for either thinking outside the box or playing the game like… well, a game. The juxtaposition of hitting the cop, and then seeing him rush after me with baton raised while the cheevement popped up brought a smile to my face.

#5 Irony / Bioshock : Take a picture of Sander Cohen’s corpse. 10 Points

I have to say one thing first. “The cake is a lie” has been so overused that I am officially abstaining from using it ever again and instead replacing it with my new favorite quote from last year. “I’m Sander Fucking Cohen!”. I specifically went without looking at the achievement list so I wouldn’t spoil any of he plot elements on my first playthrough. So when this little guy showed up, I got a chuckle out of it.

Well, that’s it for me , what were some of yooz guyziz faves?

Point du Hoc!!!! That brought back some memories.

I’m proud of getting some of the BF2:MC cheevers, those took a lot of effort. Also, a lot of the Assassin’s Creed cheevers were really satisfying.

I like “Real Ultimate Power” from the TMNT arcade game. It is beat the game on xbox live,I liked it because the people I played with already got the achievement. So they agreed to do all the work in fighting the bosses while I played it safe. They would constantly say “Put some cheese on that shit” and did everything they could to make sure I stayed alive, I felt like Splinter.

I was happy when I got “Little Rocket Man” on The Orange Box, although in hindsight, 4 hours worth of work was not work 30 achievement golds.

I really wish every system had some sort of achievement thing.

I wish there was a universal achievement system. One that was shared on all three consoles. And better yet, have it mix with real life. Like you know, this picture:
