Okay, okay, I understand the value of sequels. You spend all this time creating a franchise, build its popularity, and you want to work on the foundation you’ve already created instead of starting from scratch all over again. It just seems like this past week all I’ve heard about are sequels to games that I never played in the first place. So, here is a handy-dandy list of game sequels that are in the works, which never had their predecessors touched by my grubby little mitts.
In order of what I will most likely try out (release dates based on IGN.com’s assessment):
Red Faction: Guerilla // TBA 2009
I watched a roommate play this game occasionally, and I think I maybe played its multiplayer once. Either way, this entry (#3 in the series) looks to be completely different, with more of an open-air feel. Apparently, you’ll still be able to destroy everything in sight, which is what the series is known for.
Top Spin 3 // May 19, 2008
I’ve never played any of the Top Spin series, but if this one gets some sweet reviews, I’ll think about renting it for a weekend.
Ninja Gaiden II // June 3, 2008
Okay, yeah I played the old Ninja Gaiden games on the NES as a kid, but I haven’t played any of the new generation stuffs. You may ask yourself, why would I jump right into #2 when I can download the first one right now on XBLM? Easy: Cheevers.
Battlefield: Bad Company // June 23, 2008
My fellow threevuers are probably scoffing at the fact that I’ve never played a Battlefield game. Whatevs. It’s mostly an online-only game, right? I’m not much for online games, unless I’m playing with friends. So, with that caveat in mind, I’ll check it out.
Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon // September 2008
Now we’re getting into the territory of games I probably won’t play. This is the third game in the series, and unless it gets some stellar “you gotta play dis” reviews, I’m not falling for it. Do you get to pick the specific humans to kill? Can I kill David Hasselhoff? With hugs?
Soul Calibur IV // June 24, 2008
I actually own Soul Calibur II on the Gamecube, but have never spent more than a few minutes with it. I’ve really lost any desire to play fighting games, but again, if this one gets some great reviews, I’ll check it out.
Saints Row 2 // August 26, 2008
So, this is a sandbox/crime game, right? And I get to do the stuff I’ll do in GTAIV, but probably not as well? Count me out. Isn’t there something else these guys could be working on?
Alone in the Dark // June 24, 2008
Tell you what, if this game gets good reviews, and it delivers on this whole “episodic content” thing, I’m in. I just hope it’s not too scary, I don’t do well with that whole “fear” thing. I definitely won’t be playing it, um, alone or in the dark (guffaw!!).
Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway // June 3, 2008
Squad-based? Not quite sold. I’ve never been sold on those teamwork games, AI just won’t cut it. I’ll keep an eye out.

So you might jump on the Ninja Gaiden wagon for “cheevers”, huh? Well let me tell you, if I had to guess, they ain’t gonna be easy to get. The Ninja Gaiden games have always been hard and I wouldn’t expect nothing less in the achievement gaining process.
